This is the third day in the mission and already I can see we will be very busy and spiritually fed.
We are close to the other teamsters who trained with us at the MTC and drove out with us. They are such good people and it’s amazing how much we have in common. We had dinner together today. It made us feel very much at home. It was wonderful to have a home-cooked roast beef dinner, complete with rolls, potatoes, gravy, salad, and brownie cupcakes. They say you gain 15 pounds while in Nauvoo. We are going to be careful. There are a lot of great cooks.
Yesterday after meeting with the mission President and auditioning for the plays, we drove out to an Amish store with our friends. It was entertaining. They take credit cards which I found to be interesting. Anyway it’s this huge General store with everything you could think of. The fabric selection was unbelievable. We bought Amish hats for Bob, shoes for me, and a few other things. We will go again. They had an immense selection of top grade meats. Ground beef was only $2/lb. Of course you have to buy in bulk. Prime rib was only $2.79/lb. The hams were as big as a small child. It was quite the experience.
Church today was so reverent. We meet in the chapel for sacrament meeting (7:50A.M. and you’d better not be late) and then go over to the Visitor’s Center for Sunday School and RS/Priesthood meeting. Each is held in one big class with a huge screen and theater seats. I’ve been told that every missionary has the opportunity to teach both a Sunday School lesson, RS/Priesthood lesson, and speak in sacrament meeting. No official teachers are called. This could be intimidating since many of these members have been Stake Presidents, mission Presidents, and are on their 3rd or 4th mission. Hopefully we’ll have awhile before it’s our turn.
It was truly a blessing to be one of 60 sisters able to attend the reenactment of the Relief Society formation in its original location, the Red Brick Store in Nauvoo. The spirit was so strong. We all wore sight clothes and we taken to the store by wagon. I learned so much. Emma Smith was and is a marvelous lady.
Another day of training tomorrow, we start at 8 A.M. and with exception of a few breaks go until 8:30 P.M. There’s so much to learn. The rest of the week will be similar and then we start rehearsals for the 2 plays. I actually got a small speaking part and I mean small. I say “ouch” and then lead the sisters off the stage. It’s all good.
You are all in our prayers and thoughts. The gospel of Jesus Christ is true and brings joy. We are so happy and feel the beautiful spirit of this special place. I hope you can come share it with us.
