Joseph's Horse

Dear Family and Friends,

Happy 4th of July. We've visited many places on the 4th of July from Washington D.C. to Canada but I do believe this 4th will be a unique one to remember.  It's an honor to serve in Nauvoo on this day.  It won't be a day away from service because many people will be here to observe their holiday.  It will be exciting to tell of the sacrifices of the pioneers and their devotion to God.  Even though their unfair treatment was not stopped by the government, the Saints were thankful to be in a country where it was possible to have the restored gospel.  

We also know how important it is to treat the guests that come to Nauvoo with the upmost care.  We know how great it is to have our family and friends regarded with such importance.  Each person should come away feeling that they are VIP.  The spirit of Nauvoo is powerful and we don't want to detract from that experience.

We have now been on our mission almost 4 months (on the 6th). It's hard to believe.  We have learned a great deal and not with just our minds but with our hearts.  The glory of the Lord's work goes forth and it's amazing to have a small role in it. I must say I have a newfound respect and admiration for young missionaries. I had no idea just how difficult it could be to be away from home, with a new companion, and learning a new language. Hats off to you!  We don't have to worry about new companions and our families can call, etc.  We are learning a new language though ... performance.  Sometimes it's hard to go and do a play when you are tired but the Lord blesses us.  We sure have a lot of laughs together.

Last week when Karen was here, we were able to go to Carthage with her and her boys. (James spent the whole time in Nauvoo, sick in bed but that's another story.  Poor guy.) Anyway, we were fortunate enough to have  just us and the young sister missionaries in our tour.  It was extremely spiritual.  The boys just soaked it in.  After the tour, the sister turned the time to us to bear witness of Joseph and his part in the restoration of Christ's church on the earth.  Elder Long gathered the 3 boys in his arms and powerfully bore testimony of the truthfulness of Joseph's work and life. It was so touching. No one held back tears. What a memory for all of us.  Later Boston asked what happened to Joseph's horse.  He said he hoped that the mobs at least gave Emma back the horse.  He was so concerned. I have tried to find the answer to that question but have had no luck.  If anyone knows, please let me know.  Boston is so sweet.

Today I serve in Wilford Woodruff's home so I better get ready.  Each site is so unique as well as the experiences had there.
